Roberta Smith Honored with the 2012 HR Leader of the Year Award
We congratulate Roberta Smith, SPHR, as the 2012 HR Leader of the Year!!
Roberta Smith has made a name in our community with her passion for training and development. She was one of the Big Sky Chapters first Circle of Excellence Winners in December of 2012. The goal of the award is to reward those individuals who are a mentor and leader to the HR community. Roberta was perhaps the first name that came up as we considered who should receive the award. She has been an advisor to the SHRM board ever since her role as president in 2006. She oversees an HR department at MFCU and she has been instrumental in developing a corporate training center for MFCU and the Missoula community.

In addition to being the Circle of Excellence Award winner in 2012, she won a National ELLy Coach award in 2008, which recognizes a trainer who has changed a person’s career and life through education, mentoring, and coaching, and she was awarded a Lifetime Membership by the Puget Sound Chapter of ASTD in 1995 for her outstanding contribution to the human resource profession and the organization.
BIO:
• Roberta J. Smith, SPHR has been the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Missoula Federal Credit Union in Missoula, MT since July, 1998. As Senior Vice President, she is responsible for all aspects of employee recruitment and staffing, payroll and benefits, salary admin, training and development, employment practices, Board development and strategic planning for her organization. Roberta is also the President and founder of McGeeSmith, Inc., a human resource training and consulting firm. Founded in 1995, her firm’s vision emphasizes the uniting of professional values and skills of individuals so that they can work together more effectively - as individual people, team members, employees of organizations, and members of their respective communities. McGeeSmith's work focuses on both human resource and organizational development in the areas of leadership and management, teamwork, interpersonal communications, and customer service.
• Roberta has worked in the education, training, consulting, and human resource professions over the past 30 years. Roberta is a member of the National American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the National Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is also a member of the Puget Sound Chapter of ASTD, having served on their Board of Directors from 1990-1995 and as Chapter President in 1994.. She is also a member of the Big Sky Chapter of SHRM, having served on that Board from 2003-2007 and as the Chapter President in 2006. Roberta has also served on the Board of the Missoula Businesswomen's Network where she was treasurer, the Board of Directors for Missoula Federal Credit Union and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Missoula Aging Services serving as Vice Chair. In 2008, Roberta was awarded a National Award as Coach of the Year from the Credit Union National Association for her work in coaching and mentoring employees, specifically new trainers entering into the field of human resource development. Roberta holds multiple certifications from around the country on specific human resource training programs related to her profession.
